I Am Not Too Much. I Am Exactly Enough.

At some point, someone told you to tone it down.

Maybe it was a teacher who said you asked too many questions. A relative who thought you were too confident for a girl. A friend who called you intense. A classroom that went quiet when you spoke too loudly, felt too deeply, or dreamed too big.

And maybe — without even realising it — you started to listen.

The shrinking begins quietly

You stopped raising your hand as much. You laughed off the things that mattered to you. You edited your opinions before you spoke them. You chose the safer answer, the quieter version, the smaller dream.

We know this because almost every girl has done it. It is one of the most common, most painful, and most invisible things that happens to girls growing up in India — and everywhere.

Here is the truth nobody said out loud

The qualities people told you were too much? They are your power.

Your intensity means you care. Your ambition means you see more for yourself than what was offered to you. Your emotions mean you are deeply human and deeply connected. Your loudness means you have something worth saying — and the courage to say it.

None of these things need to be fixed. None of these things need to be smaller. The world does not need more women who make themselves invisible. It needs more girls who take up the space they deserve.

What to do when it happens again

Because it will happen again. Someone will look at your brightness and feel uncomfortable. And in that moment, here is what we want you to remember: their discomfort is not your responsibility.

You do not exist to be easy for other people. You exist to be fully, fiercely, unapologetically yourself.

A small exercise

Write down three things you have held back about yourself in the last month. Three moments you made yourself smaller. Read them back. Then ask: who benefits when I shrink? And who benefits when I do not?
